Fall is a season for fresh starts, organization, and prepping for celebrations to come. Now that the kids are back to school and summer has come to an end, it's time to embrace all that fall has to offer. Everything from your hair cut and color to your home décor is in need of a refresh, and we will dive into the details to get you there.
Step one in your fall refresh is swapping out your color palette. It's time to put away those whites, pastels, and summer yellows because fall is the season for earth tones and jewel colors. The official top fall colors for 2018 include poppy, red pear, nebulas blue, violet, orange, olive, almond, Meerkat, and Ceylon yellow (Pantone Trend Report Fall/Winter 2018). However, the classic colors of fall (seen year after year) include royal blue, emerald green, plum purple, burnt sienna, red, and yellow.
Fall colors nod to the nature of the season, the turning of the leaves, and the richness of the crops. Although you may not want to think of pumpkins and grapes as inspiration for your fashion choices, the seasonal food does influence fashion colors.
Take a little time to refresh your closet with some of these color choices while you pack away your summer clothes. You can make a small section dedicated to fall colors and heavier fabrics than were necessitated in the summer.
Fall Hair Trends
This fall is all about sleek, shiny hair and middle parts. Regardless of your length, slicking your hair into a low ponytail or bun will be on trend. If you leave your hair down, try a middle part and add extra shine with a spritz of light oil. You will be twinning with the models of New York fashion week this month.
Unlike other years, this fall is foregoing complicated cuts and layers. Highlights and lowlights are being left behind as well. Fall 2018 is all about simplicity and shine--one length, one color.
And speaking of color, the hottest fall hair colors are rose brown and rose gold. Essentially, your hair colorist will add a hint of pink to your brown or blonde locks, respectively. Single-shade, darker hues are also trending.
Even your home could use a refresh this fall. So, put away some of your lighter colors and beach décor and mix things up with more rustic materials and richer colors. You can use the colors documented in our YouTube trend video to guide your selection of "pop" colors, but when it comes to décor, there can be too much of a good thing. Use your fall pop colors sparingly.
Easy décor items to swap out include throw pillows, throw blankets, doormats, door wreaths, duvets, and candles. And easy fall items to add to your décor include decorative pumpkins, squash, pinecones, acorns, logs, and cinnamon sticks.
The last item on your fall refresh list is a makeup update. If your summer tan fades in fall, be sure to lighten your foundation and concealer shades. Your makeup should reflect your clothing color choices as well. This means that pinks may need an update to red when it comes to lips and cheeks. Soft blues and light shimmers may need an update to darker shades when it comes to eyeshadow and eyeliner.
Dark lips in berry and red shades are on trend for fall 2018. This is paired with a more natural eye and cheek. The most unanimous trend though is flawless, shimmering skin. This can be achieved with the right foundation, concealer, and highlighter.
